The “Amali” shawl essentially describes a wool accessory, handwoven with intricate precision using traditional techniques. Amali is a mountain near the city of Mytilene, where countless arbutus trees bear fruit in the autumn. The color and texture of the shawl are inspired by this plant, with its deep red (burgundy) fruit shades and the warm green-khaki hues of its leaves. Furthermore, the shawl has undergone controlled fulling with hot water, soap, and friction to achieve a felt-like texture. This combination evokes images of a rich, earthy color palette and connects us to the sweet taste of ripe arbutus fruit, as well as its texture.
Thus, the shawl highlights the skill of weaving and the unique aesthetic qualities of the fabric, emphasizing its handmade nature and the artistic approach to weaving.
