
Wool Processing Seminar 2025
In celebration of World Environment Day, Lebades invites you to a hands-on seminar exploring the full cycle of wool—from fleece to finished yarn. Join us to learn how this precious material, generously provided each year by our local sheep, can be processed and transformed rather than discarded.

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, June 14 & 15, 2025
Time: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: The garden of the Goutos-Alepoudelis Mansion, Karvési 18, Mytilene (under an ancient silk-floss tree)
Day 1: From Fleece to Thread

History & Heritage: A brief talk on the story of wool in Lesvos

Local Fleece: Working with wool from native sheep breeds

Washing & Opening: Cleaning the fleece and teasing it by hand

Carding: Aligning fibers with hand carders
-
Spinning: Using a drop spindle to create your own yarn sampler
Day 2: Natural Dye Lab

Plant Dye Basics: Introduction to readily available dye sources (onion skins, sumac leaves, weld, etc.)

Dyeing Techniques: Bathing your hand-spun yarn in small-batch plant dyes

Mordant Experiments: Observing how different mordants (alum, iron, tannin) shift color tones

Color Exploration: Comparing hue variations and recording your own dye recipes
Participation Fee: €60
Includes snacks, hot and cold drinks, and all materials.
