“The best thing I did in my life” -Argyris left Athens to do something unique in Lesbos
July 15, 2024Marina Leonidopoulou was born and raised in Athens, originally from Smyrna and from Mytilini, spending all her summers as a child in this house, the Goutou Mansion, and again every summer as a student. She owns a public relations and communication company in Athens (Out of the Box) and comes to Mytilini because she feels she is getting in touch with her roots. She has been working… continuously, since the beginning of her professional life, in the field of communication, while she studied Linguistics and French in England.
The house belongs to her mother, Myrsini Alepoudelli Leonidopoulou, currently 92 years old. It originally belonged to her great-grandmother, Antigoni Goutou, then passed as a dowry to her grandmother Aglaia Goutou, later Alepoudelli. She opened it for us with a big smile, in the company of Argyris Hatzimallis, who spends the most creative hours of the day in this house, weaving.
The “Lukas Goutou” mansion on Kavetsou 18 in Mytilini, beautiful and fully functional, carries its own history, along with Odysseus Elytis – whose presence comes today to give it even more shine. Odysseas Elytis was the brother of Marina Leonidopoulos’s grandfather, i.e. the brother of grandfather Theodoros “who lived in this house because of his grandmother” she says with a laugh, but also her brother’s godfather.
